Just received this wonderful Otherworld order on the painting desk. There are a few other models littered in, including a great reaper dragon (that thing is beautiful), two games workshop elves and some resin from etsy I think. The assembly was mostly smooth. I just love working with these classic style white metals. The Otherworld stuff is almost all easy to put together, but there was some dremel work involved and a ton of pinning. I do however expect this with most metals. The bug/ worms have about 20-25 pins in each! The entire lot of infantry, dragon and ents took less time than each of those worms individually. Absolute assembly chaos. I managed to only drill myself once (and promptly super glued my thumb haha). Needless to say, those legs and tentacles are not going anywhere. The entire lot fits nicely on one of my painting trays and I should be able to get through the majority of it this week, though it is the first week of the escalation league for MESBG near me, so I will also be painting for that. The reaper plastics can be a bit hit or miss but this Dragon/ Hydra is awesome and quite a big model. It's going to be a drybrush/ wash dream and I just washed all my brushes this morning so I think this is going to be a great time! The Ents are extremely charming and even though they're monopose (ish) and the same pose, becayse they're white metal I was able to bend them into slightly different poses. I'm really excited to paint these infantry models, especially the minotaurs (top of the picture) and there are a few models in there that I've painted before, so it's always fun to paint models I've painted before and see how my style and ability has grown and changed.

I've been on a painting spree this week. I always enjoy this bit of autumn just before it get's to grim outside. I tend to get a good burst of motivation at this time. I found some awesome alien greys and printed them out and painted them in a classic grey style using a slapchop technique, washes and soft drybrushes. I think these guys came out awesome and I can't wait to play something with them. I also got some classic Games workshop Tallarn Raiders and have been living out a childhood dream (I could never afford these as a child) so I painted them up in a high contrast cartoony 90's style. I've also been working on my MESBG Angmar force for the escalation league I'm participating in soon, I've painted many trolls and wargs, though this level of painting is a bit lower than usual as this is for my personal collection at fairly short notice. Finally, I've been painting Gandalf on cart, and that's been so fun. I am excited to get this one flocked up.
I had a great time at Colours this year. The team there where extremely helpful and polite. I really enjoyed working my way up to the show and getting everything ready and I definitely enjoyed all of the lovely conversations I had with people on the day. I learned a lot as it's been a long time since I did a show and I am looking forward to the next one. My "please touch" signs went down a treat and many people found them light hearted and engaged with the stand because of them. I also had a good look around and bought lot's of supplies like tufts and bases so I can work harder and faster. I can't wait for the next one.
I had a wonderful time at Colours convention in newbury. We arrived nice and early and I had lot's of awesome chats with potential clients, I hope they follow up. Upon arriving home I have finished this 40K necromunda order. It was very interesting to paint the gangers below (first picture) as I painted them for this client in 201 and I can't wait for him to get them back and have a "side by side" of how my work has progressed since then. |
